HOLY MEDIA COVERAGE!

This post is something that I’ve been neglecting to create for a few months now. I’ve been involved in media coverage of my weight loss story since August 2011 I think, and I’ve got tons of stories to tell about the adventure I’ve had going from Zero to People Magazine overnight. I think I’ll use this as a placeholder or a starting point for a much larger post in the future but I’ve seen a few people contact me through my website so I thought it would be good to make it a little more apparent that this site actually belongs to the Tyler Synan that they were looking for.

A Black Friday indeed.

My Grandfather was diagnosed with Leukemia today. We aren’t sure what kind but any kind is unwelcome. The plan is to hit it with an aggressive dose of chemo on Monday and try to stop it in it’s tracks but it’s still not something you want to hear. Thanksgiving was the day he went in to the ICU and now we know that he will be spending the majority of the next month in the hospital. I foresee Christmas at the hospital and that isn’t right but it’s good to know that this is something that can be treated. I’m only about 10 minutes away from the hospital so i shouldn’t have an issue seeing him but this chemo is going to make it terrible. It’s one thing to see a family go through something like this but I cant imagine how my Grandpa will feel when that shit burns through his veins and makes him sick. I hope I can comfort him as much as someone can but more than that I just hope he can get through this quickly so he can put it behind him and go fishing. I’m not a man that believes in anything beyond my life but this is something that has brought my palms together and my knees to the floor. 

Fuck Leukemia. 

Thanksgiving 2011

Yesterday at about 4:00PM PST my Grandpa went to the doctors with my Grandma and my cousin because he had been ill for over a week. He couldn’t walk very well and was really unaware of everything and nobody knew what was wrong. A little after the Doctor saw him they made a decision to have an ambulance take him to the emergency room because his condition was far worse than anyone thought. A little after 4:30 or so my grandfather was admitted to the ER and my phone was ringing off the hook. This entire indecent was completely out of my field of vision because I was playing minecraft and my cellphone was on silent covered by clothes on my bed. When I saw my phone at a little past 5:00, I noticed I had 10+ text messages and more than 15 missed calls. I knew something was up but I wasn’t sure what to expect. I called my Grandma because I knew that she was going to take my Grandpa to the Doctors that day and she filled me in. Apparently my Grandpa has something in him that has been infected for so long that it’s taking over his body. Nobody knew how bad it was till he got to the hospital and a Doctor said plainly “you’re real bad sick”. My Grandma told me that the entire family was aware of this but me and I was the closest so she had been trying to get me to come watch my Great Grandma so she could go to the hospital and see what was going on with my Grandpa. My Great Grandmother has dementia and left to her own devises might make bad decisions if she’s worked up from being alone too long. I agreed and headed over to the house so we could learn more. 

4 episodes of Mythbusters later, not much had changed but we knew that my Grandpa was in the ICU and had a constant flow of antibiotics and fluids pumping in through one of the hundred things plugged in to his arm. He looked like someone being assimilated in to the borg. I left the house and visited him in the hospital and he seemed out of it, but better than earlyer described. We left him to rest and I went home full well knowing that Thanksgiving was the last thing that needed a thought the next day.

Today, Thanksgiving 2011 I’m going to be eating pizza and sitting around the phone waiting to hear more about my Grandpa. I guess there is surgery in the works but nobody knows when. My grandma still wants to do something for dinner but there isn’t anything open that doesn’t have a line around the block or stays open past 7:00PM so i think it’s going to be written off and we will resume the plans for a dinner later this weekend when my Grandpa gets better or at least until we know more. If there is anything that i’m thankful for today, it would have to be that my Grandpa got to the hospital when he did and hopefully gets this infection dealt with in time.
